  • Is the Loehmann’s on 99th Street still there? Will it be moving to this space?

  • Nope, it’s going to be in the old CompUSA location, closer to 98th Street.

  • Century 21? Loehmann’s? What, do developers think that Rego Park is full of old Jewish women?

  • Build it and they will come, but where in the hell will they park? My guess is that they will spend an a goodly amount of time zooming up and down our side streets looking for free parking. So once again lets hear it for the brain dead local politicians who approve these projects without any thought or input from the locals that live here. Perhaps voters should insist that their legislators actually live in the neighborhoods that they supposedly represent. Must be real easy for these rich developers to seduce the local politicos over a fancy lunch especially since none of them live here. And what’s up with these stores that have both their front signs and food products labeled only in Cyrillic? Didn’t Elmhurst go thru the same thing concerning both store signs and product labeling in Chinese? Just how are the emergency service people going to get to a place whose only storefront sign is in another language? We are after all still living in America, aren’t we?
Perhaps its time for “the boroughs” to think about a return to a two or three party system. And wouldn’t be nice if our moronic local TV news stations actually covered something out here besides murder, fires, teenage racists, and traffic accidents?

Another reason to avoid Manhattan

Still in Oklahoma, but I had to take a break and relate the news that the former giant CompUSA on Queens Boulevard in Rego Park will now be a Loehmann’s, so you’ll no longer have to go all the way to Chelsea for your headbands and stretch pants. I was a little worried that the store would have a hard time finding a new tenant due to its size, but it got rented in no time flat. With Century 21 set to move into the new Rego Park II mall project, it looks like Rego Park is becoming quite the home for top-tier discount retail.
