While the shoveling of sidewalks is good, what is even better is if once a person gets to a corner he/she is able to crossover to the next shoveled sidewalk. Otherwise many folks, especially the elderly and infirm remain nevertheless "snowed in" on their own block. Also, businesses (with store fronts) that are closed on Saturday(s) and/or Sunday(s) might think of making some arrangement with a next door or nearby business that is open on the weekend(s) to have their sidewalks shoveled by their neighbor. Banks are notorious for having "unshoveled" sidewalks on the weekend(s) after a snowfall. Taking a bit of extra responsibility and working together will surely prevent many winter"slip and slide" accidents and make for a happier and healthier citizenry. To The Editor
