  • How truly sickening. My heart goes out to the little child. Who in their right mind would have such an act committed in a playground, in front of children?

  • This was not near the LIE, but rather at 64th street and Yellowstone near that NOVO64 building.

  • Absolutely terrible. As a young father, I really have to think twice about sending my son to the park or the playground even when I am with him.

Certainly these shootings can’t be good for condo sales at Novo 64 (diagonally across the street from the playground).

  • Forest Hills crime has gone up lately. It is not as safe as it used to be around here. I lived in a building previously with a part time doorman and limited security and just sold the apartment because I did NOT feel as safe anymore. I moved to a full time doorman with 24 hour security.

I think crime in Forest Hills is going up as of late while Manhattan has seen crime plummet. I think its time to move quite frankly.

  • Through last week, major crimes in the 112th Precinct actually are down 14.9% from the same year-to-date period in 2006 and an eye-popping 80%+ since the early 1990s. I’m not going to downplay the two murders in three weeks (in fact I’m downright concerned), but the facts bear that crime in Forest Hills continues to trend downward.

  • Crime is down and Forest Hills is much safer than years ago. The first shooting by the LIE disturbs me, but this shooting is clearly family drama and although it’s sad, it’s not indicative of any crime issues in the ‘hood.

  • Shooting was not family drama. It was featured on Fox News which had more details on it.

Another LIE-area shooting

Posted by Steve on Sunday, October 28th, 2007

Oddly and disturbingly, the second deadly shooting in three weeks has taken place up by the LIE overpass in the North Forest Hills-Rego Park gray area. Unlike the last one, this appears to have a clear motive: a custody dispute. The killing seems to have been carried out by hitmen on a playground in the presence of the victim’s daughter. Charming.
