Like what is supposed to happen will.
I’ve been religiously taking the G train from 63rd Drive nearly every single time I have to hop on the subway. I board right next to the sign that says “No G trains at this station until further notice.” This sign has been there the past year or so. I’ve been taking the G the past few months. MTA says the G still doesn’t go there.

The R train is replacing the G train and the N will have service at all times. Much better for everyone and a more efficient use of resources.

this is not much better. Instead of G and R on the weekend there will now only be R. That is worse!

The R is getting MORE trains on it (The unused G Trains). The only thing that is negative is that you have to TRANSFER from the R to G at Court Street if you want to take the G.
Essentially what is happening is you will GET MORE service on the R for the same Route to Court Street so it will be better than the EXISTING G line was.
Now if you go to Brooklyn, unfortunately you will have to transfer from the R to the G. But that is the only downside here.

I have long been a fan of the ‘G’ train, as I once lived off the Greenpoint avenue stop and had to rely on it, and while you don’t want to rely on it late at night, during day hours its not bad… Now that I’m in Forest Hills, I use it to visit my Brother in Cobble Hill, and its nice that you don’t have to go through that awful transfer at Court Square on the Weekends, you can just hop across the platform at Queens Plaza. If the ‘G’ stops at Court Square, that move will be impossible.

I agree with Transitm - The G is a great way to get to Brooklyn. Now that Williamsburg, Greenpoint and the Pratt area have become so trendy (yes, it’s true. Go there and see for yourself), it is ironic that the G is not being revived like the L was. The L was really on it’s last legs until Williamsburg hipsters and artists started using it.

The “G” doesn’t affect me if I need the train but I feel sorry for those guys in Greenpoint/Hunters Point who need that train. I knew this move was inevitable since it’s pretty illogical to run 3 local trains on the same line. Unless the MTA rethinks the “F” and “V”, or that Super Express Bypass is actually done, then that “G” is done at Court Sq.

Ok I’m sorta taking that illogical thing back because I think they do it at 4th Avenue in Brooklyn, I think the “G” should not run at all during the week to 71/Continental due to train traffic and run during the weekends. That would make the most sense, but that train needs to be longer, 6 cars minimum. Ok there you go.

It didn’t get much attention, but the keen transit observers at SubChat have noticed that the G is kaput beyond Court Square once the MTA implements its fare-increase-related service “enhancements.” Of course, you weren’t taking the G anyway, so you don’t really care. Which is why it was cut, I suppose. I still think it was theoretically cool that you could take a single train from Forest Hills to Williamsburg, though like everybody else, I never actually did it.
