  • When it comes to crime and politics, I dont think Queens Crap is the place. Hell, anyone could’ve written that, looks like with a Bic pen. Wikipedia says the FBI has their own taskforce to combat MS-13, I didn’t know that. To be honest, this gang don’t scare me, and by the way Wiki describes it, it sounds like a screw-up corporation. And it says they’re goal is to be the top gang of the U.S. Yeah, well what does that mean…ok so you’re on top, now what? Queens friggin crap. Besides I think MS-13 is bringing to the forefront our problem with national security and how to strengthen it, a challenge for the next President.

  • I take Queens Crap seriously. It brings attention to problems that no one else wants to talk about. “Hey, did you hear about the new restaurant that opened?” is what you get from most “neighborhood” blogs. Who the hell cares? My wife and I eat at home together with our son every night and its something we all look forward to. It’s called being a family. Quality of life is something that is not adequately being addressed by our local pols because developers who are treating our neighborhoods as strip mines are stuffing their pockets. If you have graffiti of any kind in your neighborhood, it should be investigated by your local cops and eliminated, especially if it hints at gangs. Or we can stick our head in the sand and blog about how great the latest retail chain that opened is.

  • “My wife and I eat at home together with our son every night and its something we all look forward to. It’s called being a family. ”

You sound like a typical Queens Crap regular–narrow-minded people whose first instinct is to judge other people. Your implication is that anyone who ever eats out is not a family. Maybe if you got out more and got exposure to other people you wouldn’t be so judgmental. Also, Queens Central covers many diverse and important topics that impact central Queens neighborhoods–not just new stores and restaurants. Maybe you should take the time to read this blog before drawing baseless conclusions about it.

  • Queens Crap could be a productive forum if it were run in a more respectable, intelligent manner and focused on building and development abuses. Instead, it is a forum for narrow-minded and bigoted opinions and views. Its supporters want Queens to be stuck as some backward rural town with only people that look like themselves and have the same tastes as themselves. It senselessly criticizes and complains about everyone and everything without providing any productive or reasonable alternate views. It may make some good points here and there, but those get lost in all its other stupidity and nonsense. It really has become something of a joke among people who are serious about these issues.

  • Queens Crap is focused on building abuses. There’s at least one posted every day along with news stories about life in Queens. If being against building a piece of crap in the midst of a neighborhood full of rowhouses makes me bigoted and narrow-minded then so be it. I have seen many good points made on that site and good for them for taking these pathetic politicians like that scumbag Gallagher to task. We need more independent thinking in Queens and less drooling over every action that pols make.

  • I think your “point” was well answered by Philip. If you like the fact that Queens looks like a closet full of clashing outfits, then that’s your prerogative. However, we feel city planning is sorely lacking here. And the reason for this is because developers hire lobbyists who line the pockets of elected officials. We have been told for decades that immigrants bring nothing but good things with them. From this post on Queens Central alone we can see that’s not the case. If calling attention to these facts touches a nerve, then good, that’s what Queens Crap was created to do.

  • What did Philip say that was vulgar and biased spewing of information? It read like an opinion to me, with a little throwing back of your words. As for my supposed “prejudiced views against immigration”, I have no idea what you are talking about. Legal immigration I am fine with. It’s a shame how immigrants in this city, both legal and illegal are exploited. However, the illegal ones are just that - illegal. I see nothing “immature and hateful” about this position.

  • Philip, it’s interesting that you totally ignored my response to your comment that anyone who ever eats out is not a real family. According to your definition, 99% of the families in NYC are not real families because they eat dinner out once and a while. This is why I called you narrow-minded and judgmental.

Peter, I realized long ago that anyone who tries to have a rational discussion with the Queens Crap blogger and his/her regulars is wasting their breath. You can tell how insecure the Crap blogger is about his/her worldview because any time there is any criticism of the Crap blog on Queens Central, he/she just has to post a comment to defend the Crap blog. But, not to worry, that blog will pass into history very shortly, just as all people/organizations whose viewpoint is based on prejudice and fear always do.

  • Leaving its commenters out of it, Queens Crap has developed into the best Queens blog I’ve seen, at least, because it unequivocally opposes the rampant out-of-context overdevelopment in the borough, as well as championing the retention of St. Saviour’s Church, and other issues I care about.

All you need to know about QC is to visit the Curbed archives the week the Crapper guest hosted the joint last summer. Overdevelopment supporters howled all week long.

“any time there is any criticism of the Crap blog on Queens Central, he/she just has to post a comment to defend the Crap blog.”

    Why not answer your critics?

  • Kevin - you have a nice website, but the Queens Crap site is a joke. It doesn’t take positions against overdevelopment, it takes positions against ANY development. It spreads misinformation, promotes bigotry, is full of hypocrisy, and attacks everyone and anyone that it disagrees with, fairly or unfairly. The Curbed commenters gave a lot of reasonable, logical and factual responses to Crapper’s nonsensical points of view and biased presentation of facts. It is the Michael Moore of Queens blogs. By being so hateful and one-sided, it unfortunately loses any credibility it might have otherwise had.

  • Philip didn’t say that families never go out to eat. I totally understand getting fed up with people who chatter on endlessly about which trendy new eatery is opening up down the street as if it’s the meaning of life. It’s simply annoying.

As for Curbed, pick any post and you’ll find a bunch of comments posted by morons. That basically goes for any blog, so I fail to see why Queens Crap is getting so much flak - unless it is touching upon a truth that some would prefer to remain uncovered. The Curbed gig netted $110 for charity and doubled my hits, and much to the chagrin of some, the overdevelopment message struck a chord with a lot of people.

Peter and FH Guy should look at the language they use to describe my blog. Wow, and people say I’m angry…

  • I was getting a little confused, but now that I look I realize it’s only one or two people who thinks the site “senselessly criticizes and complains about everyone and everything without providing any productive or reasonable alternate views” - it complains about the ruining of neighborhoods by developers who don’t care about the future of the area - not everyone and everything.

Yes, I believe as well houses replaced with multiple dwelling buildings all with different designs, heights, and colors (seriously pink?) all right on top of each other looks like crap. Then again, I’m not a fan of the “Archie Bunker” houses either, but at least there was some uniformity and space.

It’s a blog, that’s his view, why wouldn’t he answer someone who disagrees? Isn’t that how a discussion works? Start your own blog with your opinion, I’ll come read it.

  • Kevin, if the Crap blog was really how you describe it, it might actually be useful. Unfortunately, it is not about opposing “rampant out-of-context overdevelopment”, it is about opposing all development. You also somehow fail to recognize the racist and anti-immigrant viewpoint that is expressed by the Blog owner and many of the commenters. Because of this, any legitimate points the blog makes about development are overshadowed by the many anti-immigrant and other narrow-minded posts that have nothing to do with development.

You want to leave the blog’s commenters out of it, but don’t you have any concern about the type of people that are being drawn to the blog? The majority of comments there are at a grade school level and the most common response to anyone who disagrees with the blog’s viewpoint is to curse and name-call. I think the quality (or lack thereof) of the blog’s commenters speaks volumes about the blog itself.

  • You make a very good point FHGuy. The level of comments on that blog really are juvenile and simple-minded. If the comments bother you so, then perhaps you should stop reading them and just enjoy the blog. Oh, wait, you don’t enjoy that either. I’ve noticed that it bothers you so much that you comment about it negatively on every popular site that links to it. Better get some help, man.

I feel sorry for you that you insist on defending it so much. As for Jake, he linked to a post that had to do with Long Island City. Maybe he saw it on a web search or linked from another site. One reference in a year doesn’t show that he supports Queens Crap. Why would he?- Queens Crap constantly makes idiotic comments about development of LIC and the people who live there. It doesn’t change the fact that he personally told me that he doesn’t read Queens Crap.

The issue is whether the vast majority of comments on a blog (and some of the blog owner’s posts) are simple-minded, uneducated and bigoted. That is what sets the Crap blog apart from many others and puts it in a league of its own.

This will all be done over Skype and will be a good way to get publicity as well as bring up good content.

Two sides to every story

Posted by Steve on Friday, January 4th, 2008

So Queens Crap had an alarmist update earlier this week about MS-13 graffiti on a construction site in Forest Hills. I didn’t really touch it because the people I hear going on and on about MS-13 tend to be apocalyptic loons like Michael “You Should Only Get AIDS and Die, You Pig” Savage, plus isn’t Central American gang graffiti on a construction site as likely to come from undocumented Central American day laborers as from the nearby high school? Anyway, I filed that away until my commute home today, when I saw this artistically tagged on an otherwise unmemorable poster at the 75th Avenue subway station:

STOP IMMIGRATION
natvan.com

This, of course, freaked me out more than a thousand Salvadorans. Natvan.com was the website of the National Vanguard, the white-supremacist organization notorious for foisting upon the 20/20 viewers of the world Lynx and Lamb, aka “Prussian Blue,” the adorable, not-quite-talented twin folk singers who delighted white priders everywhere with their songs glorifying Rudolf Hess–until they turned 15 or so and apparently started to wonder whether Reich really makes right. By the way, I say “was the website” because in one of the bazillion organizational shakeups and/or meltdowns that happen constantly with these people, the National Vanguard appears no longer to exist and has seemingly been folded into the National Alliance, the same organization it broke off from in the first place. Whatevs.

So, welcome to Forest Hills! On the one hand you’ve got your tattooed, ultraviolent Central American gangbangers, but on the other, you have the tattooed, ultraviolent Neo-Nazis who hate them. Oddly, though, almost everyone else is a Bukharian Jew from Uzbekistan, probably not too popular among either fringe group. Anyway, it’s a really nice place to live, I promise!
