I wouldnt focus on the cost too much, the Blackberry is superior to the Treo and I think most would agree...no one ever talks about a CrackTreo or a TreoThumb.

Also, check out letstalk.com - I get all my phones there and generally get the newest model phones (Pearl, Razor, etc) for free or make money on the deal.

Shayna: The same chap who is about to settle with the IRS for at least two million in back taxes that he and his organization owe, to get out from under a criminal investigation.

The same chap who was caught on video in an undercover sting discussing the possibility of doing a drug deal. Who had to become an FBI informant against Don King and his goombahs(when Rudy was US Attorney, knew what kind of sleaze the Rev Al was and wouldn't have anything to do with him).

I had a Treo 650 for quite time and recently ditched it for an AT&T Slide which I really like. The Treo is cumbersome and had all sorts of technical issues. it froze and reset many times and my email client never fully worked. the Slide has been flawless and runs on Windows Mobile.

Actually, your price comparisons make Natural seem pretty good. They are comparable with Trade Fair on a lot of items, and always better than key food in both price and quality. I don't buy certain things there--the glass cleaner, for instance, is exorbitant--but for produce, I still think Natural is as good as it gets. I get a natural high from being in there and looking at all of it...such a contrast to Key, which makes me feel hate for humanity!

I'm interested in the CSA, but do you mean that it costs $250 per week? Because that's way more than what I pay for my entire grocery bill for about 3 weeks!

Compared to service on, for example, the DC Metro, the price is NOT the problem with the NY transit system. It is severly UNDER-priced if you ask me. What I do find troubling is the severe lack in UPKEEP to the subway system. Yes, the DC Metro is NOT 24 hours, which is, I think, it's biggest turn-off. However, to have made little to no progress on the 2nd Avenue subway line, to see trains like the E still running those horribly outdated cars (I'd like to see the N train cars on every train on every line, little to no ventilation in the stations, is atrocious. Bring the fare to $3 if need be, but with ridership on the rise, we have every right to expect see our money going somewhere.

I think people's behavior in the theaters has less to do with cell phones and more with home viewing habits. With cable and DVD players becoming more and more commonplace, not to mention entire home theater systems, people are simply more used to watching movies in their own living room. To the point where when they are at the theaters, they're acting like they're in the comfort of their homes, oblivious to the presence of anyone else.

Re: trees --I don't know about the ones that have been pruned, but many that I have seen pruned are either done by coned because they insist all overground wires must not have any branches overhanging them, and I always plead with them to be as kind as possible to the trees. In regards to the massacre that took place over 30 trees on the myrtle ave thruway from Parklane to Woodhaven, they weren't pruned, they were chopped down. Big difference. And the stumps all left there, go check it out, and see for yourself. I used to love to walk through there to the track area, and now I feel so depressed when I pass through there, completely ruined the energy. I used to think I was in the French countryside when I drove through there, and now, not. The ones with with the white flowers are gorgeous that bloom in the spring up the park lane south drive, i love them.

My final words on the bad word/allowed word issue, yes, I can be confrontational but I have a very good sense of where it will be met with hostility and where it will lead to discussion. I'm very friendly, but as another poster pointed at, I'm not insulting or scornful to them, or judgemental even, I am inquistive about why in fact this double standard is so pervasive. Most of the time I meet kids who are very polite, and often just talk like this amongst their friends as a use of slang, and they don't really think about it out of this context. I don't have an agenda, which unfortunately, I can't say about certain members of academia that might be encouraging this co opting or re-interpretation of language from the position of power.

Just because someone is part of a minority group doesn't give them the right to perpetuate the very behaviour they claim to abhor. Just being a member of a so called "oppressed" group -which can also encompasses many people that don't want to belong to this stereotype, doesn't give credence to perpetuating language that reinforces the very nature of their so called oppression.

It seems to be okay to say any disparaging thing about Whites, or Christians,or Southerners,as a group but any other hatred for any other group is not tolerated, and condemned. It is best to condemn the act and the individual, rather than label an entire group. I've met lots of racist gays, sexist feminists, racist blacks, racist whites, sexist gays, racist jews, etc...and many other members of so called minorites that embody the very essence that their group claims to hate. So, hypocrisy is rampant all over the place, and everyone at some point is guilty of it in one form or another.

And this is why, I think perpetuating the language is a bad idea, because it encourages stereotypes and promotes a double standard of hatred and backwards thinking that can be applied to any group that doesn't fall into the "minority" camp.

By minorities saying, well, you know you white people just don't understand us, you don't understand what we've been through, (whoopi goldberg's comments on the view recently regarding the use of the N word), they are reinforcing their role as victim, and a group that is due something. I don't think this attitude helps anyone, and least of all the person saying it. If creating a language that belongs to a minority means re-claiming words that were used by another to deface that minority, and co opting them into a new found meaning, is some sort of a progression, I don't buy it. It's like a car alarm going off, the word has ceased to have meaning to the victim anymore, and no one turns around to see if the car is getting broken into. The sign loses its meaning. It no longer exists. It is still there, but it can't be seen or heard. This is the worst that can happen to history, to be forgotten.

They stopped making the Edge phones about two months ago. However, people are clamouring for them on e-bay! So if someone is jonsing for new i-Phone they could probably get $300 or so their their Edge powered i-Phone. Crazy, huh?

I will say that the new i-Phone feels really nice in your hand, it has a curved back. Very nice I must say. It is also a bit thinner. Not much though.

I bought my apt that way. Before you do anything, get a credit report and find out your score. A high score gives you a better chance at becoming first dibber AND securing a mortgage (especially these days). Also, get a pre-approval on a mortgage. I suggest doing this with your bank. I also suggest getting the actual mortgage with your bank if you can because if you are a valued customer, some perks of monetary value will be had. The pre-approval helped me get my seller to go down on price because she knew I'd get approved for a mortgage :-)

Good luck!

Hi KGResident -

Wow, that's something else about the 3g battery - does it drain faster due to the 3g technology that you know of? Steve Jobs said he was first worried about that, that's why he liked EDGE.

I'm at work right now so I don't have access to the i-tunes store but I remember the NYC transit app being very inexpensive - It is so worth it!

I really love The NY Times app also. It is constantly being updated so it's like you have a current Times (with access to all of the sections) at your fingertips. It is also section categorized with easy to read text so you don't have to make it bigger or smaller like you do on the regular website.

Don't even get me started on the games!

Let me know what apps you download - we can trade thoughts on our favorite ones :)

Actually (wahhh!) I haven't even got an iphone yet. My unoriginal handle is easily confused with kew gardens residents handle who DOES have one. I was playing with it in the ATT store on Sunday and I saw about 3 apps that I will get when I get the phone, but right now I am using a replacement phone that is only a little more sophisticated than two tin cans and string! Would you believe that it doesn't even have a camera? I didn't know they still made phones without cameras! Basically, there's NOTHING I dislike about the iphone except the slightly cringe-worthy monthly fee.

But thanks for the answer re the ebooks: $8 for classics isn't bad, but $17 does add up. Everything adds up, except my savings account it seems.

Hi Another KGR -

I just saw the thread you posted about the e-reader - didn't see it until now (sorry). My iphone book collection has grown. I've downloaded about 15 books and I must stop this insanity - It's expensive!

I've downloaded classics like Leaves Of Grass, Pride & Prejudice, Moby Dick, On The Road and novels by Ann Tyler and Wayne Dyer. The classics are inexpensive (under 8 bucks or so)

I just received a book I ordered through amazon (new release) but am sending it back unopened as it just became available on the ereader site. The new release goes about 17 bucks on ereader while Amazon charged $21.

My question I was eluding to is - have you downloaded any apps from the app store yet?
Some of them are great! I like the NY Times app. There is also a NYC transit app that tells you instantly up to date subway work conditions. It also acts like a gps system that tells you the nearest subway to where you are at the moment. Tres cool!

Talbot, both of your examples are gay themed shows and goes back to the point that if you are of a particular group, it's OK to use. The person that started this particular discussion might be gay himself and then it's OK, although I don't speak like that. Case in point, I was watching Will & Grace and Jack said "what's in the bag fag", which made me laugh. If a stranger said that to me, I would be offended, but since a gay character on a gay themed show said it, it was amusing to me.

The only other place that carries grass fed beef (in FH area) is Trader Joe's, or at least it did carry it recently. All grass fed, not grain finished, from New Zealand...they only had a few cuts, but you could get cuts like NY strip and filet that you can't get from a kosher butcher.

It's a shame. Some people just do whatever they want without thinking about how their behavior affects others around them. And if you say something politely, you risk a fight! It's the might-makes-right approach to the world.

Biker: Unfortunately the word is becoming an accepted part of everyday language when there are shows like "Queer As Folk" or "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy". Aside from the actual meaning of the word and it's appropriate (non Gay) use, it's current use in media and academia has somewhat diluted the offensiveness of the word.

But words aren't any less offensive if an African American uses the word "Nigga" than someone else, if anything it's worse because it actually undermines the effort to get that offensive term out of everyday use. The same goes for a lot of words.

--Heck, I don't care! Romance is fine, whether it's male-male, female-male, or female-female. I just don't want to see anybody doin' the nasty or encounter any evidence that it has been done in public spaces. Tue, your image of the the man asleep on his partner's lap was lovely.

Or how about how "curvy" has come to be used as a euphemism for overweight? Huh? Rita Hayworth: Curvy. Marilyn Monroe: Curvy. Hourglass: curvy. Beyonce: curvy. Precision, people. Marissa Jaret Winokur: voluptuous yes, but curvy, no.

In terms of the "butchering" of street trees...a lot of what is done depends on the type of tree. The city, despite its good intentions, has not always had a history of good judgment in terms of which trees to plant. Those magnificent, huge silver maples in Forest Hills Gardens and along Continental? They are beautiful...but very prone to coming down in a storm....and when those huge trees come down, its serious. It is now frowned upon, in fact, possibly illegal, to plant a silver maple within 100' of a house. A decade or 2 (or3) ago many Bradford pears were planted in Queens. They are the first trees to bloom in spring with gorgeous white (slightly fishy smelling) flowers, and the last to turn in autumn with beautiful burgundy foliage. Aside from the smell, should be a perfect tree....but after planting 1000's of these trees, it was discovered that they are exceptionally brittle, with branches very prone to breaking off in a storm...these are probably the trees that were pruned because of improper angle. So, I guess its fair to blame the city...but for planting them in the first place, not for pruning them to maintain safety.
