Red meat can lead to heart disease and cancer. I tried being a vegetarian for a while but gave it up not too long ago. I still try and eat less red meat. Ethically speaking however, I'd rather not eat meat. Realistically however, it is almost impossible for me.

I work with a woman who is 35 and has been a vegan since she was 11. She was diagnosed with ms a few years ago. Wondering about correlation.

I don't think there is any correlation Pat.
I love red meat although I have been trying to do better the last few years.

I was a vegetarian for about 10 years, mostly on ethical grounds. I've never really liked beef, but a lot of my favorite Chinese dishes have pork, which was challenging. I was able to steer clear of those dishes, but my downfall turned out to be ...... pastrami. Yes, I was living in upstate NY, and when I came back to Forest Hills to visit my family, I would just CRAVE some good pastrami on rye with mustard, pickle on the side. This was back when Forest Hills was amply dotted with good delis. YUM.

Red meat, in and of itself, is not that bad. Natural grass fed beef, lamb, venison, bison are leaner and have a better profile...much higher in Omega 6 fatty acids (the good ones found in fish). Feedlot grainfed beef is terrible and full of antibiotics etc., I will only eat that in a steakhouse. A recent study actually indicated no health problems with red meat, but only fresh. Cured red meat seems to be the real problem.
