I could do that stiicks, but then I would have to take the hellish elevator, which seems like some converted medieval torture device. It is always going out of order and there was the time one woman was trapped inside for over an hour and had to be rescued by the fire department.

If the rent is low, then you have to accept the bad with the good, but sometimes things DO change for the better. You could get a new Super who would do a better job of keeping the compactor room better... especially if the elevator drops to the basement when the current one is in it.

stiicks, you're right about the neighbors thing. Most of my neighbors are cool except it just so happens that my upstairs neighbors are a bunch of refugees from the old Soviet Union and are a bunch of idiots. They have caused me a lot of grief over the years, but we've now reached a sort of detente. Most of the time these days they are ok but every once in a while they do shit that might bring on a war again. I know if I move though that I will get a whole set of new neighbors all of whom could be like these gorillas so it's another thing that keeps from going.

The people above me didn't seem to understand basic rules about apartment living. When I tried to explain to them things about noise which I had learned from years of living in them, I was extremely frustrated. They seemed to think that there were no 'rules' and that they could do whatever they damn well pleased. If I didn't like it, they told me I should be living in a private house. And the cops are pretty useless when you try and get them involved with noise complaints. Eventually things worked out between my complaining to them and the landlord. They seem to have complied and are quiet at night. But during the day is another matter, but that is ok for me usually since I'm not at home most of the time. And they are quiet in the mornings.

Flo, I usually get 8 to 10 hours sleep a night, and when I don't, I take a cat nap during the day. My husband gets up 5 am for work, and was complaining that I woke him when I went to bed early, and then he couldn't go back to sleep, so I got in the habit of staying up late.
