No--they are giving away free the bumpers you need. If they sell for $29 they cost under $1 to manufacture

Jewels I'm sorry we didn't meet Up again yesterday. I had to leave. How do I get it?

I should have gotten there earlier--I got there around 7:30 figuring it would be a long night. Everyone enjoyed themselves. Just hard to plan in the summer. We are thinking the new Tapas bar on Austin--Common Space if it is decent. Next time we may have to pick Unos since it is much quieter than TGIF

I would call Apple to get the bumper. Problem is even if you wanted to buy the bumper--it is out of stock as far as I can tell. Also Apple doesn't manufacture the bumper so they have no control on the restocking

Yah, I need to get a bumper and all that for my iPhone...
But, more importantly, jewels: there is a tapas bar on Austin? Where is it located? How long has it been open? And is the food any good?

The Tapas bar will open soon. It is called Common Space and is in the mini mall on the upper level next to Ripe/Corfu

KGResident get your iPhone 4 yet? I love mine!

This is a great app. It tells you the train schedules and gives you subway maps of the entire city. And it's free!

Hey Pat (Tue) I get my phone on 8/5. Got my bumper though. Anyone know how to get the $29 refund from Apple? I played with a couple of them though. Really nice! We'll have to compare apps at the next meet up!

Feds let users tinker with Apple iPhones

    By KAJA WHITEHOUSE

    Last updated: 1:13 AM July 27, 2010

Go ahead, tech geeks. You have the government's blessing to break open your iPhone and install software or change wireless providers -- without Apple's approval.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs lost a major battle for control over his popular handheld gadgets after the Copyright Office of the Library of Congress rejected Apple's argument that iPhone users are "licensees" rather than owners of computer programs on their phones.

The agency ruled that iPhone users have the right to break Apple's electronic controls and tinker with the device's operating system, known as "jailbreaking" in tech circles.

Typically, this is done to install unapproved applications or to change cell phone carriers on used phones.

"Congress has determined that reverse engineering for the purpose of making computer programs interoperable is desirable when certain conditions are met," the agency said in the ruling.

Analysts said iPhone users still risk voiding their warranties if they make changes without Apple's approval.

Meanwhile, iPhone users who check their banking balances using Citigroup's banking app, Citi Mobile iPhone, should move quickly to download the updated version.

The previous version had been saving customers' personal banking information in hidden files on their gadgets, and uploading them when users linked to computers to do activities such as synch to iTunes.

"We have no reason to believe that our customers' personal information has been accessed or used inappropriately by anyone," a statement from Citigroup said.

RIM shares up on reports of new BlackBerry

    (AFP) – 4 hours ago

NEW YORK — Shares in Canada's Research in Motion surged Wednesday on reports the BlackBerry maker plans to release a new smartphone next week to rival Apple's iPhone.

RIM shares gained 4.19 percent in New York to close at 55.41 dollars.

The Waterloo, Ontario-based RIM is holding a press event in New York on Tuesday but has declined to specify what it is about.

Bank of America analyst Vivek Arya said, however, RIM is likely to unveil the new BlackBerry 6 mobile operating system and a BlackBerry 9800 touchscreen smartphone.

"We expect 9800 shipments to begin in late August, with possible global launch in September," Arya said.

The analyst said the launch of the BlackBerry 6 platform is a "critical opportunity" for RIM to "stabilize US market share and improve investor perception."

"The key will be for RIM to stabilize US market share (with BlackBerry 6) and continue its solid overseas growth," Arya said.

Morgan Stanley analyst Ehud Gelblum said he expected the new RIM phone to receive "hero" treatment from AT&T and for the carrier to "promote the product aggressively."

Gelblum also said he expected the new RIM phone to be exclusive to AT&T, giving it a new smartphone to promote in addition to the iPhone.

AT&T is the exclusive US carrier for the iPhone.

RIM's touchscreen smartphone, the BlackBerry Storm, has failed to match the popularity of the iPhone and handsets running Google's Android mobile operating system.

RIM Tests Touchscreen BlackBerry and Tablet Prototypes

    6/16/2010 9:20AM by Caleb Johnson

Apparently, Research in Motion (RIM) isn't satisfied to stand pat in the smartphone market. According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, RIM is testing a touchscreen BlackBerry prototype that has a slide-out keyboard and will run the yet-to-be-released BlackBerry OS 6. Users would be able to swipe and pinch the screen, and the device would also have a universal search bar for users to navigate the OS and probably the Web. Sound familiar? When released, this device could become a direct competitor to Apple's iPhone 4. But that's not the only Apple device in RIM's sights, according to the Journal's anonymous source. The company is still experimenting with a BlackBerry tablet, too. It wouldn't be a standalone device like the iPad, but the tablet would connect to the Web via a BlackBerry phone.

Naturally, RIM remains tight-lipped about these rumors, but CNET News reports that BlackBerry OS 6 will become available by September 30th. If that's true, we wouldn't be surprised if both of these rumored devices were to launch late this year or early next year. Until then, we'll continue to be consumed by all this iPhone 4 madness.
