While Talbot's concern for Weiner and his family is touching, I think the family can get by just fine on Huma's salary for a while. These job offers are just an attempt to get publicity. Former members of Congress are very marketable and I'm sure that once some time passes, Weiner will have a lot of great opportunities to use his education and his 12 years of congressional experience to once again work on important public policy issues.

I think Huma will be moving on in the near future. Unfortunately, for Tony, he performed all of his deeds on types of media that don't go away. He embarrassed many of the people who put him where he was and those people will hold power for many years to come. If he had a low key, discreet, affair and got caught, he may have had a chance at some sort of comeback. With the transcripts, the texts and the pics, out there forever, the only important issue he'll be working on is finding a good divorce lawyer and a way to pay the child support should everything proceed as scheduled. He should have told the truth from the beginning, went away for some counseling and volleyball, and he'd probably still have a job. His wife is a class act, I feel bad for her.

Unfortunately FHGUY the word on Weiner is that those offers will not be forthcoming for him because he has no marketable skills for employment in the the private sector. He has spent his entire life in Politics, not even Government. He's not an attorney, doesn't have a business or technical background. The only thing he can hope for is that when things quiet down either a low profile lobbying job in DC or teaching in a College and even that could be a problem as any College administration might be very reluctant to have him around a place with large numbers of young women.

The apt (based on the ad) was very small--listed as 2 bedroom but many one bedrooms were larger. They no longer have to live in FH. Huma is the breadwinner--she works in Manhattan when in NYC (vs Washington). She is quite urbane and would hate (in my opinion) living in he suburbs. And no--I didn't ask her

Turner is part of the majority in the House and with the exception of Mike Grimm the rest of the City's delegation ain't. So they're not in much of a position to do very much anymore. Plus it's a thin majority in the Senate so Schumer isn't in the position he was in a couple of years ago. Fact is the Democrats have taken NY for granted and haven't done all that much and with Turner and Mike Grimm in the majority the GOP may have to start paying attention to us.

NY-9 was Schumers district and he isn't gonna do anything to piss people off over here. I think the message is the Democrats can't view most of NYC as a lock anymore. There are places where they can be beat. It's significant in terms of the Presidential and for the US Senate elections next year. A Republican candidate who approaches 40% of the vote in NYC will win likely statewide. There are sections of the City where Republicans can win or build a strong plurality.
