good luck with that, you'll get the tabloids on top of the press, but I don't see much of a deal with the press. I only see one black suv with 2 sleepy guys and about 3 camping outside the building most of the time. They're not obstructing anyone's businesses. I think it's terrible. I'm not condoning what he did at all, but this do exactly as KG97 suggests: allow the R's to pick up more seats. What he did was gross but not illegal. Even his lying isn't illegal, though it is unethical.
I had hoped that this stupid mess would just die down.

It wasn't thje Allred thing. She is a publicity hound who was boosting Ginger Lee's gig. Huma knew to come to her Washington home, not FH. On her return, Hillary ordered no press at the airport. Too many of the women were coming out of the woodwork, hurting Huma. The cross dressing photos may have been taken during college--Fraternity hazing time. Hillary is extremely close to Huma and wanted the pressure off her. The advice came from Bill and Hil--and my gut instinct is they may help him with a job (and this is strictly my opinion)

Well, I admit that I'm hugely disappointed - I felt he was great for our community. But with sadness I must say he needs to step down. In view of all that's happened, I truly do not think he can continue his job effectively. :(

He has informed House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi and other key party leaders of his decision, the sources said.
Weiner called Pelosi and Rep. Steve Israel, who heads the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, at the White House picnic last night and told them of his decision, a Democratic Party leadership aide said.
One ranking House Democrat said, "All the choreography is there. Now all he has to do is get in front of the camera."
Weiner is expected to issue a statement before noon today, the Democratic aide said. He's expected to hold a press conference at 2 p.m.
"I believe it's a done deal. He has talked to his governor," a second key House Democrat said.
"It's sad," this person said. "He knows his behavior is reprehensible and he needs to make a human comeback. This is heartbreaking."
Weiner's decision came after his wife Huma Abedin returned early yesterday to discuss the widening scandal with him. He had been said to be waiting for her to return home from an overseas trip with her boss, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, before making a decision.
Indeed, without his wife's counsel, Weiner may not have decided to leave.
Two sources who have spoken directly with Weiner said he was set to stick it out even though he knew House Democrats were set to strip him of his committee assignments and bar him from taking part in the caucus.
Weiner felt that his behavior was not criminal and shouldn't end his career.
But Abedin apparently helped him reach the decision to resign.

KG: The deal over the seats was made before all of this. All Tony did was help them decide which one was going to be eliminated. 42% voted against Tony last time which means an 8 point change and it could change hands. So they'll do the smart thing and get rid of it so the worst that happens is that it's temporary. Funny thing is those 2 seats are going to transfer to areas that are more likely to vote GOP anyway.
I'm sure there's a promise of a job somewhere in exchange for his leaving. Maybe the William J Clinton Foundation. Probably will cost him Lisa's twitter address.

I still don't see why he had to resign. Other politicians (Republicans and Democrats) have done worse things and lied about them and stayed in their jobs. I think the media is partly to blame for relentlessly pursuing this story and keeping it alive day after day, even when there was no new information to report.
Also, after this I don't see how anyone can characterize the mainstream media as the "liberal media" (as conservatives often do). If we really had a "liberal media", reporters would not have been camped outside of Weiner's building 24 hours a day and the story would have lasted a couple of days at most.

I agree completly with FHGuy and I don't see why he has to resign. Yes he made a mistake and perhaps he could have handled himself butter, but it was not as if he did anything illegal. I think he is an extremely intelligent and capable congressman who represents his constituents well. I support the Congressman and will continue to do so if he stays on.

Just saw it--he apologized again to everyone, said he has to get better, then resigned. Didn't say when the resignation would be effective, immediately, or in a few days so he could clean out his office. No questions. No Huma.
