Competence goes out the window when someone shows incredibly poor judgement, and a lack of honesty and integrity. Our society continues to lower the bar for what is acceptable behavior and most can agree we are not better off by doing so. Shouldn't our elected officials be held to higher standards?
Other politicians who have broken laws but didn't resign, should have! Unfortunately, like too many politicians, they put their egos above the people they represent.

Yeah, the guy did some stupid stuff and brought this on himself, but it had to be excruciating to stand up there and make the speech, especially with what was being shouted from the crowd. The way that crowd was pushing forward as he left the room, Huma really could have gotten knocked around had she been there.

Weiner should never have resigned. What he did had nothing to do with his political capability. If I have disgust for anybody it's the people who wanted him down and the women who sold him out. Brietbart is a scumbag.
These people should put a full length mirror in front of themselves the next time they're getting nasty and they will see shame.

I had a friend up in Fishkill whose husband was cheating on her with a local trollop who worked at a 7-11. I was furious over the possibility that she was on the receiving end of the potential sexually transmitted diseases he was bringing back into her house.

Pat: A high level executive in a major company would be fired over this because it reflects badly on the company. His actions reflect badly on the Congress. Even by the Democrats low standards of behavior he crossed the line. He was an embarassment and an enormous distration to his party. There was no way that Chris Lee was getting pushed out and this guy (who behaved much worse) wasn't. In light of whats going on in the economy not acting would have disastrous for them. This guy has some serious psychological issues and it actually explains a lot of his behavior prior to all of this.

When the story first came out and Weiner acknowledged what he did people were angry but would have protected him. The story kept growing and when Breitbart got Opie and Anthony to release the penis picture that was it. The story/pictures went viral--including internationally. Then one of the bimbos released the gym photos. The gym is a very private sanction for members of Congress. The pictures were sent to strangers. The Monica Lewinsky affair was one on won to someone Bill knew and trusted and it was consentual.

Jewels: What happened to Clinton wasn't about Lewinsky, that's revisionist. What happened to Clinton was the result of a long term pattern of behavior that goes back to when he first ran for office. The issue was Sexual harassment in the workplace, and he was being sued for for that, Lewinsky was tangential to the case. It's also not just direct acts of harassment which he engaged in, but the issue of a hostile workplace and abusing his position to have sexual relations which is what he was accused of. Whether or not his relationship with Lewinsky was consensual, is probably so if it's couched in terms of sexual assault. But given the situation was it an appropriate relationship between the Boss and a subordinate. In this instance given her history of essentially being a Starf--ker that one could assume it was consensual. Or can a 22 year old intern in the White House truly consent to a sexual relationship with the President. Of course that still doesn't explain all the others.
Forget about Opie and Anthony. Who took the damn pictures? Weiner. Who sent them over the internet? Weiner. He did himself in period, he's a screwed up guy.

Simply put:
Would you fire a male employee if he was getting a blowjob in his office at work by his intern?
I know I would have been fired instantly at my work place.
Would I be fired for sending a picture of me topless at the gym at work to one of my facebook friends?
Probably not.
Weiner's act was a lot less egregious than Clinton's.

That's precisely why I find it interesting the backlash on Weiner by his party and how they left him for dead vs the support for clinton.
It really has less to do with what he did and more to do wtih the fact that he was not well liked and he hasn't been playing nice in the sandbox.

Hey Pat: didn't Rip Torn get so drunk that he broke into a bank and told the police he thought it was his house. Lot of people get drunk. I seem to recall a certain Senator from Massachusetts who was drunk and drove off a bridge into the water and left his passenger to drown.
But we can talk about Alan Hevesi, Eliot Spitzer and how many Democratic Assemblymen including a couple of Speakers, State Senators, Borough Presidents, Judges and County Leaders have been convicted, not to mention under indictment or are about a half step away from being indicted.

Par: He had a .15 alcohol level the local authorities will probably let him off if he makes restitution, but I wouldn't be surprised if he resigns from office.
How about Senators who drive drunk over bridges and leave their passengers to drown, think they should get locked up too.
Not playing nice in the sandbox didn't help Weenie, but he had to go anyway, his party is in enough trouble and it was clear it was affecting the President that he had to say something.
While Clinton certainly did worse the difference is that he was the President and that taint stays forever. Even though he's a laughingstock right now he'll be lucky if he's a footnote in the history books in 10 years, so it's easier to toss him.

If Weiner drove drunk in a stolen vehicle I want want to see him do time too. What a surprise that the senator who did this is the regional substance abuse authority Legislative committee chairman.
You would probably defend a child rapist if he were a republican politician.

No I wouldn't I'd lock the SOB up and throw away the key. Better yet I'd put him in the general population, he'd be dead within a week. I don't seriously think anyone defends someone who is clearly a pedophile, although the Dems did defend a pedarast in Congress.

I love this game of which dirt bag politician was worse. You can't be a stock broker if you have a criminal record, but you can be a senator or congressman? I love this country. Anyone with a criminal record should not be allowed to serve. Period!!!

In that case I should serve LOL. I have a completely clean record. I don't even have a driving ticket. I think I'm too ethical to be a politician.
