Bartinis has 106 violation points --the worst in FH--and should have been closed by the DOH
BARTINI: 105 violation points
?Inspected June 24, 2011
Do you know if they were temporarily closed? A single bad inspection or even intermittent bad inspections does not mean the end of a restaurant (see my posts on the Pinang thread for info from the NYC Department of Health.
Bartinis sounds like an ideal place for the QC Forum reunion. I think the invitations should read "BYOB", in this case for "bring your own bat".
Geez, eateryRow, thanks for going there so I didn't have to! Sounds awful. What a waste of a good space!
It sounds like a dive but not in a fun way.
Bring back Beefsteak Charlies.
I was going to sy that too TR. Nothing seems to do well in that space anyway.
TR, Jane -
Wasn't Beefsteak Charlie's in the space that Jade occupies now? Or did it use both levels? A number of my KF classmates were waitresses (yes, they were called that at the time) at BC's. Salad bar and all the beer (and I think Sangria)you could drink...
Also, I remember Steak & Brew following BC's...When I was president of the local chapter of the National Assoc of Accountants, we held our Queens meetings in the back room.

Beefsteak Charlies was in the Jade space-- Bartinis took over some unused basement space. There was also the fondue place which never made it.
I don't think Bartinis has been closed yet by the D0H. There was a take out Chinese restaurant /Sushi place on QB and 68th. They were listed as the dirtiest restaurant in Queens-but they were never closed--this was around 2 years ago. They lost their lease when the Russian restaurant next door expanded (now called L'Amour). Oddly enough they took over another Chinese take out in the neighborhood and have an "A" on their window. Part of the problem in several cases is not the restaurant owner--but the landlord. There was a nice cafe on Yellowstone next to the nursing home. Pleasant arty place with wifi. The owner closed the cafe when the landlord refused to correct a basement problem which got drowned out after rainstorms (it is at the bottom of a hill). It is now a dumpling place.
I went to Bartini's exactly once. I met some work colleagues there thinking, it might be a little cheesy, but how bad can it be. Bad. Very. Bad. Neon at a cocktail bar? Shudders.
It was sad, depressing, and ugly.
How do they stay in business?
It is not a local crowd and the bouncers have been a problem. They made headlines a few months ago when a patron left, had a problem with the bouncers, and died when he went to an ER on LI
Very mixed reviews. but it sounds like a place that should not be in business.
When I was there there was no crowd at all....
I used to go here years ago after work and it was nice. It was when it first opened. I believe Kean's was the bar before it. That was a small bar but they had live entertainment.
It's a shame, it has potential.
Never been in Bartini's. All I know is that the drunks would leave that place in the early morning hours and yell and fight in the surrounding streets waking up the entire neighborhood. So glad it's doing poorly or nearly out of business. Not a right fit for this neighborhood.
Jade is a welcome addition and I'm glad to see that they are doing so well.
