I have very light blonde hair and in need of a colorist (mine moved away after 18 years). I am looking for someone that can do the highlights without all the bright brassy tones. Had mine done last week and will not return as I do not like the color and need to get it corrected. Any suggestions?

I iwsh there was a way to EDIT after you hit the SUBMIT button..........I saw the word as it left the screen and before it popped up on the site and was helplesss to make the change

Sephora has some high end shampoo type products which will tone down the brassiness. Use only shampoos and conditioners formulated for blondes. Heavy doses of sun will encourage brassiness.

I have tried all the high end toners for brassiness to no avail. The sun does usually do a number on my hair and actually gives me the very lightest of natural highlights, however I wear a hat all the time now when in the sun, as my scalp has been burned so many times and have had some skin cancer in the last 3 years..............so am now extra careful

When I was doing highlights in my hair which is naturally a dark blond I went to a *high end" salon in NYC. Even strangers complimented the color. My neighbor went there for her wedding. A family member of a friend decided to color her totally grey hair when job hunting years ago. The result was totally brassy--and this is a salon that will interview you in advance before taking you on as a customer.
I do my own hair color now. Have recently used a new product on the market. Color--a medium golden blonde came out perfect. It was the color of my youth and I have received numerous compliments on the color. But if you go online the product received very mixed reviews with complaints of brassiness. The bottom line is hair color--especially in the blonde shades is a chemical reaction and when using a new products there is no guaranty it will not be brassy. As Jane did--try to get the formula from your old salon

Jewels, What product did you use? I also did the at home, new to market Kelly Van Gogh product line in the lightest blonde color available. As I have only been doing highlights for the past 6 years, and no all-over hair color there should have been no interaction, but the brassiness was there. I expressed my disappointment to the company, and they refunded me 100%, including Shipping charges, and just told me to keep the shampoo/conditioner and spray-in toner..........The customer service was wonderful. They suggested I purchase their highlighting kit to put back in some of the really light blonde to contrast and I chose not to do that...........I do nto trust myself to do highlights
Baack to highlights only at a salon. Wish I had gotten the formula from my old hairdresser before he left.......Live and learn

I use the new John Frieda foam product in a medium golden blonde. No mess. Not a radical change from my natural color. I have previously used the 10 minute color by Clairol but I had to make do with a medium blonde color--it was rare to find a golden blonde . There have been mixed reviews online about the color results of the Frieda product--but brunettes who want to be blonde have a lot of red in their hair. Oddly I had braids until I was 7 years old--and my mother saved the braids. My current color is identical to the braids.
Even if your colorist moved, if the salon is still in business you may be able to get the name of the product from them.

The King of Color is Louis Licari. Very expensive, but you can go on class night (by appointment) for $40, credit card only and they do a great job on blondes - the best natural looking highlights.
