A point of info--just passed by close to their 8pm closing and they had a large assortment of bread left--baguettes, croiossants, chocolate crpoissants, breads, etc. They are baking more and trying to accomodate people as they come home from work. Much more products then I have seen on weekend afternoons
The best new business to open in the neighborhood since Martha's Bakery & Agora. I love this place!
I had that pastrami sandwhich myself today with a bowl of the absolute best Oinion soup I have ever had. Could only eat 1/2 of the sandwhich and brought the other half home for dinner. Have not been disappointed
I knew there was a lot of frustration about no product left mornings/afternoons. Never thought they would have anything in the evening so I never bothered to mak was pleasantly surprised--thought this might be helpful--who would have thought to go evenings. They have the Sarabeth Jam on the tables--which retails for $9 a jar locally.
I mentioned that it would be nice if they could add a salad bar since they already have a lot of the ingredients and Energy Green is now closed. There is a problem with lack of space but they are slowly adding more products.
I love that place. My favorite time is Sunday morning at around 9:00. Mile there and mile back so at least I feel riteous eating their stuff.
I am a La Boulangerie Fanatic! We have had just about all the breads/pastries and man, oh man, you cannot go wrong. I can't tell you my favorite, as it rotates on my mood. I will say that Max, our 21 month old, loves the croissants. When we leave, he waves and says "Bye Bye Yummies"
I have walked by it several times but am put off by the crowds. I am not a man of much patience. One day when it appears empty I shall walk in.
I'm with you, Bobby. This place is strictly for the stroller & walker crowd. The baguette is really good, but I don't have the patience for the ultra slow service. This is definitely not the place for people in a hurry to pick up something quick on the way to work, or for those who don't have lots of time to hang. Also, you can get a baguette just as good at Cheeses of the World on Austin Street.
Ava, I guess I should have tried the joint when I was using my cane, lol.
Early Sunday morning is the best time to go.
It is really a nice cafe to enjoy a nice cap and croissant. Beautiful breads, croissants, salads, sandwiches. Not great for strollers since there are steps. Items sell out quickly. A lot of effort went in to duplicate a casual French cafe. The Yenta crowd now has DD on Continental. My mother used to meet her friends at Roy Rogers and stay for hours. Subway has also attracted the retired seniors. Before closing they seem to have a large inventory. It is not a grab and go establishment.
I guess I need to hangout at Subway then.
Now all 12" sandwiches--your choice--are $5--enough to fill your appetitesatisfy your wallet. I think a former poster on QC hangs out there from time to time--just a guess since I have never met this person
I think I just may have to shoot myself....
I am determined to get here at least ONCE before I move.
I can't understand anyone criticizing La Boulangerie for being popular. Yes, there often is a line. That is because of the high quality and tasty products that they are selling. The fact that the place is very busy also ensures that anything you buy is extremely fresh--nothing sits around for long on the counter or shelves at this place. And I have never found the service to be "ultra-slow". The service is at a normal pace--it just takes a certain amount of time to serve a long line of people.
Also, I have had bread from Cheeses of the World. In my opinion, there is no comparison--all of La Boulangerie's breads are far superior.
FhGuy, WHO is criticizing the place for being popular? I just stated that I am put off by the crowds and that I lack patience. I hope the place continues to do great so it will encourage other quality places to open and that it will not be such a novelty in FH to patronize a place that serves a product that is beyond just edible.
I was in there this morning, and out, in about 1 minute. Yum!
It's my fave and my scale has yelled at me about it.
Bobby, maybe FHGuy means me, although I did say the bread was good, but I so agree with you. I don't have the patience for the place. Maybe once all the hype dies down and the service improves. My point was, there wouldn't be such a long line if the service was faster. When you have 5 people on line and 4 people behind the counter, there shouldn't be such a long wait.
Plus, 9 times out of 10, the croissants and baguettes aren't ready and they tell you to come back in 20 minutes. I lost patience with that after a few times. My neighbors feel the same. Just a difference of opinion and no reason to downplay the excellent bread in Cheeses of the World - delivered fresh daily.
La B is a great place to hang out for the stroller set who have lots of time.
If a place is popular, no matter how fast the employees are, there will be a line, since people will be coming into the store while others are at the counter being served.
I've been there numerous times. Never had any long wait. The times when there was a short line when I was there, I was happy to have the few minutes to look over all the different stuff they have behind the counter and on their sandwich shelves. It's such a nice place, any line never seems to be an issue. Just great to have a place like it and be able to soak up the atmosphere.
Wow Ava, you ARE complaining!! ;)
No doubt FHGuy must indeed mean you. You are so '60's in your anti-establishment views!!
shout out to my favorite bakery-- Bonnelle-- with delicious croissants (almond are out of this world), pastries and bread-- no crazy lines, and a lovely owner, Rahita (absolute sweetheart)!
Bonnelle DOES have the best almond croissants. The sisters are nice and I believe their brother also works there.
I love Bonelles too and I haven't stopped going there! (But, unless she's changed, she won't give a plastic bag if you only order one pastry.) I understand the need to conserve, but her treats are so butter filled that you need the plastic bag to protect your clothes.
AKG-- have you asked for a bag? I haven't given it much thought-- I usually only want a small bag when I buy a few things (although I'm usually buying for my whole family, which warrants a plastic bag!).
