Yes rock stars age and we don't LOL.
My friend is a Frampton fanatic. She follows him all over the place to his shows on the East coast and is one of the Presidents of his fan club. She's met Frampton many times at fan club events. She still thinks he is as sexy as all get out.
She felt him taking a lead role in the Sgt. Pepper movie-bomb in 1976 along with a 1978 car accident ruined his mega-career in the 70's.
I've always felt his music was kinda boring AOR but to each his/her own. I did love the song I'm In You though.

Wasn't the first album I bought, but one of the first-- and it was an 8 track tape (ha)-- it must have come out about the same time as Fleetwood Mac's Rumours-- I remember playing both 8 track tapes on my parents' tape deck over and over again :).

I am not totally sure but I think the very first LP album I bought was the Frankie Avalon "Venus" album. Might have been around 1957.

Most of my albums were purchased on sale at either Alexander's or Korvettes (on 5th & 47th) for $1.99. There was always something I wanted on sale, and if not, the next week it would be. And my 45's were even cheaper. Are we aging fans of rock stars? Funny thing is that I'm currently reading a bio of Keith Moon, and read Keith Richard's "Life" earlier this year. At least the latter Keith lived to tell his story (very well, I might add).

EricMM, I saw Paul Simon perform the song, "Sounds of Silence" a few months ago at the Beacon Theatre. Just him on the corner of the stage with his guitar. He got really choked up while he was singing it. It was so deep and moving.

I got it from the good old QBPL, put it on request. It took awhile, but eventually it arrived at my branch. But we all know from former threads that I'm a big library fan, totally upset that each time I go to the library, with the exception perhaps of the main branch, there are fewer books on the shelves. So sad that the older books are being taken out of circulation.

I've always been a big lover of show biz bios - the more messed up the person, unfortunately, the more interesting the bios tend to be. Have read lots of Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe bios in that vein, although I'm also a huge fan of both women. Guess I like the dramatic.

I liked them both-- the movie has a slightly different ending than the book (I had read the book when it first came out-- so it didn't seem particularly repetitious to me). Some of the acting in the movie seemed to be a bit over the top, but it really didn't detract from it-- I can see why the critics didn't give it rave reviews because of that, on the other hand I think it is doing so well due to word of mouth. Viola Davis was excellent. I saw it with my mom and daughter-- they both really liked it, too. Let me know what you think.

I saw it two weeks ago. It was pretty much what I expected: A film to help white people feel better about ourselves by reducing racists to evil monsters. Good v. evil. Zero depth.
It's worth remembering that people brought their spouses and children to lynchings, that they kept gory reminders of the work on store counters. I'm sure many of these people were good parents, good spouses and deeply committed to their society. But it's much more comforting to imagine them racists as Lex Luthor evil and Jeffrey Dahmer depraved.
For if we admit that racists--and by extension homophobes and misogynists--are not some alien species, but that they walk among us, then we must also admit that we are subject to looking past their flaws, and that we, ourselves, are subject to the same impulses. And then finally we must begin to see how easily we could have lived, in that time, and done nothing. Or done something horrible.
