I had a source who told me this a number of weeks ago but now it seems from signs in the window that it's fairly official. For those on the north side of QB in that area, this could be convenient. Yeah, I know that Rite-Aid and that other pharmacy are right across the Boulevard, but they are across the Boulevard...

I was told that it will not be part of a chain. Didn't hear the thing about Rite-Aid--any idea when that's happening?

No idea. But it now makes tremendous sense. No reason to have two pharmacies on opposite corners.

It makes sense to me as well, but then I think about the fact that about 5 doors down from Rite-Aid, there is Traymore Chemists, which somehow has survived the existence of Eckerd/Rite-Aid on the corner and Rite-Aid when it was in the space now occupied by Sovreign Bank. Also, somehow, both Duane Reade and Rite-Aid both survive on Continental.

For the first time in about a week and a half, I walked by this location this morning. The windows are covered about a third or so of the way up with graphics/posters right up against the glass. I am not bananas about the fact that they used suction cups to hold up the posters, but certainly it's better than a vast array of surgical supplies in the window. The door was open and I peeked in--there were a series of standard-looking shelving units set up and some of them were stocked. I can't imagine it will be much longer before they open, unless they are waiting for some sort of license for the pharmacy.

I live nextdoor, and was hoping for something more useful. The video store was convenient until ALL members of the staff became backtalking slackers. The mattress store was OK, but not something you tend to use more than once every 5 or 6 years. A coffee house might've been nice to see there. Not a restaurant, though ... truck deliveries are for the SOUTH side of QB!

Rite-Aid is changing? Is FirstMed something similar? I frequent Genovese/Eckerd/Rite-Aid quite often for non-medical household supplies, and I'd hate to see that feature leave the area. I also use them for their 'cash back' debit card pay option, as we actually have ZERO banks in the area.

    Pro-Zak--

    First Med is a "doc-in-the-box."

There will never be a food-based business in any of the stores in the building in question as the building's underlying legal documents prohibit it.

First Med is a clinic? CRAP! Rite Aid was the best place around (1 block away) to buy toiletries, laundry detergent, and non-essential foods.

I've neutrally read the threads here about this & that restaurant, or mom & pop store closing over on Austin Street, but this neighborhood change is the first one to seriously mess up my living & shopping patterns. Ugh, I've officially joined the "It used to be better here when ..." club.

I passed by and noticed a Pharmacy sign over there. Looks like it is indeed a pharmacy.

Hey Pro-Zak, we can only hope that the Rite-Aid thing is a wild rumor, or maybe a proposed deal fell through. So far no move toward it shutting down, as far as I can see.

Today I saw that they posted their hours--

    M-F 9 to 8
    Saturday closed
    Sunday 9 to 6

I can see in the windows. The shelves are mostly stocked, and it basically looks like a mini Rite-Aid. Better than nothing, I suppose.

Any idea why the Saturday hours? Maybe a Jewish thing?

Usually Saturday closings are when the owners (and/or a super-heavy concentration of the clientele) are Jews who strictly observe the Sabbath. But if that's the case, it often goes in tandem with an early Friday closing...

The pharmacy hasn't been stocked yet ... 2 more weeks says the lady that's running the place.

Are you guys talking about the Rite Aid on the north-side of Queens Blvd? What is replacing it?
