The 63rd Dr street fair was yesterday. It was marginally better than last spring's, but not by much. The taco truck was very good...made the mistake of trying the fried calamari...1 taste, and I handed it back and got my money back. I've never tasted anything so bad in my life. I was really afraid I'd get sick....but so far, I'm still alive.................

I just got back from Austin St. It was similar to the one in June. Crowded as usual. I would say the standout for me was La Casa de Camba food stand- it's a brightly colored tent in front of Stoa Jewelry. They were starting to run out of some food when I was there, so hurry! It's Bolivian food- a version of empanadas called saltenas, tacos and taco bowls and homemade sodas with very interesting flavors (I had the ginger lemonade). Other than that, a lot of standard fare.. Tap House has a bunch of different wings for sale, Asian Bowl is selling dumplings, Brownies & Cream was giving out free samples, there's a bouncy house for kids and the usual kettle corn, spices, crepes, sausage & peppers fare, etc.
Speaking of Brownies & Cream, I went in yesterday- brought home 3 to try & share w/ Corey. Liked them all- S'mores, Vanilla Cheesecake & Plain. All good. 3 for $3. The macarons looked nice as did the homemade ice cream (dying to try the Coffee Brownie ice cream). I am concerned about how they will stay in business though. Not a huge product line, not a lot of seating.. perhaps there should be more emphasis on coffee in order to draw business. The owners were very nice though.

Just got back. CD stand was great, as usual....picked up a live Tom Verlaine bootleg from 1987, and a bootleg (I think...it said Columbia but I've never heard of it) of Dylan's 1966 tour. Food was the same old same old. I got a BBQ pork sandwich from a Costa Rican stand. Was goo, nothing spectacular. But too crowded and too long.

I went and had already eaten, so I was focused on the merchandise, particularly clothing and jewelry. It was disappointing. There used to be more variety in years past, and the quality of the jewelry has really gone downhill. And wow, was it crowded. But at least the cats were there!

Very very crowded (made worse by dill holes with strollers), but it's always great to see the local businesses out. Tap House had wings, cheaper than menu price. Brownies & Cream was an empty plate .. Boo! I asked the art guy why he had all Brooklyn pictures. Didn't he realize where Austin Street was?

Got a good buy on a cell phone case. They had a few cases that were of better quality--t Mobile, Blackberry, etc
Got my 5 Burros burrito--I knew the food was fresh and you can never get inside the store
Had the Vanilla Cheesecake homemade ice cream at Brownies & Cream. They are adding cartons of milk and chocolate milk for the kids
By 5;30 they were closing it down. Cheeburger had a stand a few doors away from Johnny Rockets and were giving out coupons

Missed it as I had a commitment in Manhattan today. Don't know what they did or did not do differently than usual about publicity--the usual signs were up on Austin Street for probably 2 weeks.

I actually thought the street fair was nicer this time around than in the past. Actually felt there was more diversity amongst the vendors and the music that I caught (around 5 pm) was fabulous. While crowded, I don't feel it was as crowded as past events.
Then again, it was just a fabulous weather afternoon (before the rain hit) and I was happy to be strolling the neighborhood and in no particular rush :)
