We are looking for a photographer for our wedding in Queens in September. The wedding will be small and casual so we do not want to spend a fortune on photography with one of the big full service places. Does anyone have any recommendations for an amateur or professional photographer who can take candids and portraits for about 2 hours on a Sunday?

My husband and I just got married in March and used a wonderful photographer who our friends used. He offers reasonable pricing and does great work. His name is Andres Valenzuela and you can check out his wedding photos on his website: www.avcphoto.com

He books up quickly, so if you're interested in using him, give him a call or email hime to check availability.

By far the best wedding photographer that I know is a person by the name of Edson Dias. his website is diasphoto.com. His work is really incredible and his website is a testament to that. He is an artist first and I believe that is how he has such a great eye for incredible shots.

Got married last year, we used proline...their website is prolinestudios.com, professional photographers very reasonably priced. The photographer we had was Anthony (Tony), he worked out great.

hordonc... Im guessing youre biggest problem is going to be availability. Many people are booked more than a year in advance.

Also, most photogs book by the day. So, because you only want 2 hours of coverage, you will likely still pay a fairly high fee. This is because to cover your 2 hours, the photog will miss the opportunity of doing another event.

Brett Matthews on long island seemed reasonably priced to me, with decent work. However, I'd guess they are booked, and I am not sure if they do hourly.

There is also this website I found: http://www.bellapictures.com/ They seem to be a sort of agency for photogs, which may be a real benefit given your last minute crunch.

One of the photographers that I interviewed before my Dec 2006 wedding lives in Forest Hills. I didn't end up using her (I went with a bigger operation), but I was very impressed with her and her work. Her name is Katie Lyman. Her website is www.katielymanphotography.com.

We used this guy; very reasonable prices and took AMAZING pictures (he's probably booked for September, but you could try)

Good luck; I hope you find someone you like!

I gotta put in a vote for my buddy. He shoots a lot of stuff (clothes, food, people, etc) -- but here is the page on his site for the NY weddings he has shot so far:

    Hordonc never came back!

Anyway, thought I might as well post more here in case anybody else happens to be looking for this type of info. Here are some photogs that I thought were pretty great -

    terrymichael.com
    bethkeiser.com
    belathee.com

    These three are general awesomeness!

I can personally recommend Beth Keiser. I used her for my wedding... and she was amazing. Also very friendly, and just generally a great person...

Jeffrey Vock did a fabulous job with our wedding and was marvelously unobtrusive (very important to me!):

We are meeting with a local Forest Hills photographer Douglas Kearse tomorrow to view his portfolio. If that doesn't work out we will be checking out some of your great suggestions. Thanks everyone!
