Spider-Man Week in Forest Hills

Have you heard? It’s Spider-Man Week in NYC. All this week, to celebrate the opening of Spidey’s newest mega-blockbuster, events and promotions are taking place all over New York in recognition of the influence Peter Parker’s hometown has had on the Webslinger’s mythos — and Queens, the home borough of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, is no exception.

A huge Hollywood-style premiere in Astoria! An exhibit at New York Hall of Science! A tribute at the Museum of Moving Image! Yes, everything is coming up red and black — except in the one neighborhood where Peter Parker actually grew up.

The only Webhead-related event in Forest Hills is a mysterious “surprise” waiting for redheads at the neighborhood’s two Supercuts locations. You can get the same surprise at any of the other 950 Supercuts in the city.

The final insult? The exhaustive map on the Spider-Man Week website places Aunt May’s house squarely in Elmhurst.

Therefore, I am hereby calling in my power as editor of Queens Central in order to unilaterally declare Spider-Man Week in Forest Hills. There will be no tributes. There will be no special offers. There will be no events, except for Friday, when Spider-Man 3 finally opens at the Midway, four days late. The only thing you have to do during Spider-Man Week in Forest Hills is remind everybody you encounter where Spider-Man is actually from.

Remember: With great power comes great responsibility. Don’t let Spidey’s origins be forgotten. Celebrate Spider-Man Week in Forest Hills and bring just a little more integrity to this world. As a longtime Forest Hills resident, Uncle Ben would be proud.
