[...] Avid walker that I am (”What are you, 60?” a friend once asked), I’d been meaning all week to check out Time Out New York’s Great Walks issue. I was hoping they’d cover the nabe, and TONY did not disappoint, continuing to bring the Queens love with an 8-mile, 5-hour trek down our beloved Boulevard of Death. Recommended local stops include Briarwood’s circus-themed car wash, as seen in Coming to America; Russian grocery Berezka, Kitty Genovese’s death site and the infamously misogynist Civic Virtue sculpture in Kew Gardens; and Elizabeth Skin Care (interesting choice!), the Gardens and Knish Nosh in Forest Hills. Rego Park, a fascinating neighborhood, merits nothing — maybe that’s why property values are so far down. [...]

Can't say I'm surprised. I thought Rego Park had potential, and was looking in the area some time back. I was put off by the proliferance of paved over front lawns, high front walls adorned with stainless gates and trim. Everything seemed out of place. For the same high price, I wanted something less.....obnoxious.
