You folks are so funny. The newsstand is being replaced with a newer newsstand as per a permit with NYC DOT.
I just noticed this posting and its funny how quickly you post a comment on something without knowing the facts.

Yes that newsstand is being replaced. That is the one on the North side of queens boulevard which the above referenced permit is for.
The one on 71st and continental is still around and there is no permit as of yet for new newstand. If you see that one abandoned too its cause its being replaced. Though I dont see a permit for replacement of that one right now.

The busshelters and new newsstands will look very nice. I suspect the other newsstand will be replaced too.

Permits dont have to be searched for. It was a known fact that busshelters and newsstands were being replaced which was announced awhile back in 2006 in all honesty.
The new newsstand will make Forest Hills look nicer. The old newsstand was in bad shape. If you keep the newsstands and obviously they are being kept, then we just needed to make em look nice for the community.

One day, you’re the lead-off story, next day you’re yesterday’s news.
Last week we were coming home late in the evening and saw the newstand guys cleaning everything up, and we thought they were just going on vacation or something. Guess not.
The curious thing about it is that the newstand was left open and abandoned like so for at least 3 days.
The guys who ran the newstand always seemed to have a great rapport with their regulars every morning. They always seemed to have steady business during commuting hours, even with a supermarket, candy store and subway-based newstand within spitting distance. One of the more comforting phenomena of NYC is the ability of a newstand and a candy-and-newspaper store to co-exist and thrive right next to each other.
To the Queens Boulevard and 71st Road Newstand Guys: I wish you all the best! May you always have many customers, sell lots of candy, and sell winning lottery tickets wherever you are!
