You moved to a neighborhood without thinking about the restaurants? I consider that lame, sir.

You moved to a neighborhood because of the restaurants? That's the lamest thing I've ever heard and proves my point posted on another topic.

I was so upset when Rouge closed. I loved going there for brunch. I discovered on Sunday that the little diner was closed as well. I am now in a panic worrying about whether or not Cabana will close. That place is fantastic. I just moved to Forest Hills from Rego Park in November because I wanted to be nearer to this area with such great restaurants and activity. Argh!!!

While I was walking past The Windsor this morning I noticed a building permit in the retail location next to Beach Bum Tanning. How blissful it would be if this was actually a Forest Hills Bliss Spa location! I know I'm dreaming ... just keeping fingers crossed that it's not another schlocky nail salon. Anyone have any info?

I might have wrongly implied they were already out of business instead of going out of business. Anyone have any further information?

Here's what the Staubach ad actually says:

"We are looking for Signature Stores, Chains, Anchors, Frnachises, Banks or any other National Retaliers the Upper level is ideal for Medical Use as well..."

Why jump to the conclusion that these would only be "soulless" chain stores? As I pointed out on FH72, a signature store or anchor could be a high-end store like Crate and Barrel, Williams-Sonoma or Restoration Hardware or many others which would be welcome additions to FH. I think we should wait until we see what is coming before concluding that this new building will add nothing good to the neighborhood.

It's funny how many are lamenting the demise of "Restaurant Row". Here's what we have (or had) on this row:

2 chain restaurants (Santa Fe and Uno's)
1 terrible Japanese place (Narita)
1 awful Chinese place (Peking Duck Forest)
1 mediocre diner (UJs)
1 good Thai place (Bangkok Cuisine)
Rouge and Cabana I can't comment on because I never ate there

In my opinion, there's not really that much here that we should be fighting to save. It is very possible that the closings will bring in better restaurants. It certainly wouldn't be that hard to improve upon the current "Restaurant Row".

I think the destruction of "Restaurant Row", rather than Staubach embracing that is a huge blow. Left to continue, I think we would have seen better places push their way in.
