Yes, its absolutely true that our neighborhood, Forest Hills, Rego Park, and Kew Gardens have the lowest crime rates in the city. I think that its for a combination of reasons, first our population consists of hard working blue and white collar workers, and many government employees. This also includes the up and coming immigrants, put together a rather upwardly mobile, and assertive bunch of people. On more then one occasion I have seen our citizens confront the local and transient petty criminal population.

Unfortunately my personal experience has been that the 112th , fondly called “Fort Bagel” by many insiders has a mixed record as regards their response time. Another problem is that many of the new immigrants fail to report petty crime (mostly vandalism), graffiti, car accidents, noise complaints, and robbery. This of course leads to lower crime stats in these areas, and unfortunately a lower number of police assigned to the 112th.

Thankfully most of crimes are of the non-violent nature, and we are lower then most of the pricier areas of Manhattan as concerns armed and unarmed assault, murder, and rape.

I think everyone is talking about crime and Forest Hills ever since that denist got murdered. But the thing everybody has to realize is that that was an isolated incident, which pretty much generalizes all the crimes that occur in New York City now. What are the number of crimes in NYC now? 450-500 a year now? It can't get any lower unless the police pretty much solves every family's bickering. That's what it's come down to now. Though I'm not saying people should give up walking down the street at 3am without eyes behind their head, I'm saying that people shouldn't be worked up about crime as much, particularly in Forest Hills, because it's come now to be more personal and related. You just don't have those type of stranger-to-stranger crimes anymore. Not saying that it's not out of the pool, just under control now.
